Wealthier is Healthier

As many readers of this site are probably aware, wealth tends to lead to better environmental and human health, i.e. wealthier is healthier.
But how many knew, as the BBC reports, that if African-Americans in the United States were their own country, they would rank 11th in the world in GNP? Considering the relative fraction of the population they represent, that is astounding.
But where's the (always missing) link?
